WHAT IT IS?

CoverStory is a series about a young girl who is interning for a small time news site and is set against the backdrop of the small town of “Cleveland TN”. The series follows the daily discoveries of Jenny G. as she is unknowingly thrust into the middle of a dangerous coverup. CoverStory is a series about truth and lies, dark and light, and those who choose to live in-between. CoverStory is a show about the ways in which the truth effects those who find it.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

GENERAL INFO:
CoverStory is a dramatized factious podcast series with a tentative launch date scheduled for the beginning of 2018.

PLOT SUMMARY:
During her Junior year of high school, Jenny Garfield applied for an internship with the internet based news site, CoverStory. That year, while off for winter break, Jenny was contacted by CoverStory saying she had been chosen for the internship and requesting that she join a team of investigators in Tennessee on January 21st, 2016 to begin her internship. After squaring everything away with her family and school, Jenny headed to Tennessee with her new mentor, Nicole White, to follow her dreams. Jenny is now completing her Senior year of high school and working with CoverStory on an investigation that will put her front and center with one of the largest cover-up-stories ever investigated by the small team.

Tone:
Stark difference between the innocence of what Jenny believe she is doing and the dark plot working from behind the scenes. Everything seems normal on the outside but very dark when we focus on the plot happening behind the scenes.

SEASON OUTLINE

Season 1: CoverStory - The Instigate Saga

SUMMERY:
In the first season the viewer is reacquainted with Annie and her friends.
This first season will foreshadow the events of the next two seasons (seasons 2 and 3) as Annie watches Chris being faced with the decision to either stand for his beliefs or sit down quietly when God calls upon him. This occurs when Chris, the local weatherman, is told he must apologize for previously stating his beliefs on a news broadcast or be fired. Struggling with this decision, Chris consults Sullivan for advice. After hearing what Sullivan has to say, Doug Hoop turns to God for help in making his ultimate decision. (This will mirror the same actions that Annie takes in season two when she is considering mission work.) In choosing to stand for what he believes, because God called him to, Chris ends up waking up in the physical world at the scene of a car accident believing that everything he just had experienced in Benton was some kind of vision or maybe even another world.

Christopher

Christopher

Chris is the 5 year running weatherman at Benton’s local News Station. Called Topher by his friends, Chris understands nothing about fashion... literally! He honestly believes that plaids and stripes go together and that the 70s are still in style. As the series progresses Chris is fired from his job as the weatherman after standing up for what he believes. He is then put on trial for being intolerant and found guilty. When this happens Chris’ lifelong friend, Nathan, turns his back on Chris and allows him to be wrongly accused.

Annie

Annie

Although Annie does not come into the series until the third episode she is actually who the series is all about. Annie is introduced as a young girl lost and looking for a place to spend the night. After spending one night in Benton, Annie is called for jury duty when everyone in the town of Benton, except for her and Chris, is put on trial for stealing identities. When Annie is unable to make a decision about who is guilty and who is innocent she begins to lose her trust in God. Annie quickly becomes a pushover, not standing up for what she believes. In a quest to help save Annie, her new friend, Chris, gives her a full time job at the News Station.

Nathan

Nathan

News is his job... literally! Nathan is always quick with a joke, going with the flow, never taking work—or life—too seriously. Nathan is the news anchor at Benton’s News Station and Chris’ best friend. Nathan is commonly described as having a couple of marbles missing but he doesn’t care. Nathan always says the less marbles he has in his head the more room he has for ideas. However, those ideas always seem to have a way of getting him and Chris into interesting situations.

Mr. Smith Jr.

Mr. Smith Jr.

Always keeping up with fashion and being the definition of hip and trendy makes Mr. Smith Jr the polar opposite of Chris. Mr. Smith Jr has his premier when he applies for the job as co-news anchor for the News Station. As expected Mr. Smith Jr get the job but not before he has to be a key witness when the people of Benton are sued for identity theft. After Mr. Smith Jr helps give the News Station its most successful year ever Mr. Smith Sr, owner of D.R.A.G.O.N Network (the News Station’s broadcaster) promotes Mr. Smith Jr to the new position of manager for the station.

Tony

Tony

“Back in Nam” Tony was a drill sergeant known for getting things done. As the shortest person in “Benton”, Tony has learned to use his phrase “Get down here so I can yell in your face!” to strike fear into the “filth bags” that infect “Benton”, the town he has promised as sheriff to protect.

Martan

Martan

Smooth talking is Martan’s job. Martan goes through life “believing everything, with no beliefs”. As the only lawyer in “Benton” Martan is always looking for some sort of situation he can “smooth talk” his way out of, whether it’s something he’s gotten into or something one of his clients has gotten into.

Sullivan

Sullivan

Sullivan is a true man of faith. He’s always willing to give advice and the reason for the hope that’s within him. Acting as a mentor for Chris, Sullivan is often consulted when Chris doesn’t know what to do. But after Sullivan does a special “New Year’s” show on the News Station where he never mentions God at all, Chris begins to think, “Does the life Sullivan live show his faith? Or is all the ‘good christian’ stuff just an act?”

tammy

Tammy

“Follow his will”. That’s young Tammy’s life phrase. When the series begins Tammy is working for a missions board overseas. However we do see her return to Benton when Annie considers moving overseas.

Mary Ann

Mary Ann

Mary Ann has been entrusted by her mysterious employer to deliver a confidential letter to a Chris. Mary Ann travels with "The Professor" in order to find Chris, the recipient of the letter she has been interested to deliver. After finding Chris, Mary Ann begins to think that she may know him.

The Professor

The Professor

With a reputation of being able to find anyone, Mary Ann asks the Professor to help her deliver a confidential letter. The Professor takes Mary Ann to Chris, however when Chris opens the letter the Professor begins to realize just what he has got himself into.

Mr. Smith Sr.

Mr. Smith Sr.

“When I was young the media was good. There was no such thing as rated ‘R’”. Mr. Smith is meant to represent media the way it was before it became “bad”...or before we realized it was bad.
